Thanx Bejoy.
We too are having second thoughts on the present treatment. But, we have to take well examined and researched steps specially since she has been on the present line of treatment for over 2 years in the last 3 years.
But, thanks for your advice regarding diet. I’ll look into it immediately.
How do you know so much about it?

Dear Vandana,
We are in the process of finding a suitable derm – actually there are so many, and they all have their individual preferences of treatment. We have appointment with the present derm this week, but I doubt he will change his treatment – some doctors and professsional are like that – take it or leave it types – and I opine he is one of them.
So now we have to decide. Firstly, select a derm and secondly gradually stop betnasol intake. I want to be very careful of it, that is why may take some time.
We are at Noida, though working in Delhi. I am a CA and a partner in one of the better firms of India. My wife is also a CA though recently she has decided not to work wholetime but to spend more time with the kid. Yes – it would have been nice meeting you.
I shall keep you posted of the development and decisions. I shall enquire of Dr Francis at Bombay.
I’m sure our kids will be fine soon.

Dear Vandana,
Thanx again for your advice. As I said earlier, we are revisiting the issue. But we have to be very careful since as against Swinzle having betnasol for less than 2 months, my daughter has been on this treatment for over 2 years in the past 3 years. Your advice and experience will certainly help us in taking the final decision. The final word may take some time. If its going to be a change, it might as well be a well researched and beneficial change. After consulting the best 2 peadas in Delhi, I am in the process of consulting one in Bombay. At the same time, we don’t want to be confused with the varied advices that we get. We have some time since Betnasol, if to be stopped, will have to stop over a period of time.
Yes – within 9 months of starting betnasol on her, nearly all the lesions had repigmented. Then, we had to stop it for her vaccinations, chicken pox, etc. And they started to reappear. With betnasol, they have been more or less in control except in the last 3-4 months. Overall, she has responded pretty well to the treatment, with no effect on her growth. She does not have any digestive problems. What we are now getting more concerned is that upto what periods of time will she be administered betnasol. Her general peada warns that continuous use of it will sooner or later cause problems, specially during puberty.
You have tried nearly everyting. Maybe you have even accepted that if it doesn’t work – so be it. We have yet to reach that stage. But, one thing is really to be appreciated – giving one’s daughter the confidence enough for her to give a damn about these spots- that’s just great and cheers for it – to you and to Swinzle.
Do you know anything of grafting? In case her vit after stopping betnasol restricts itself to the present areas, can grafting solve the problem permanently?

Dear Van,
Thanx very much for your advice. It seems that you have already dealt with the issue that we are facing at present. That too with your daughter – same issue. Even my daughter gets angry soon. But except for her cheeks being a little puffed and fluffy as compared to her remaining body, no other side effect has been noticed.
Yes – recently, even we feel that once betnasol is stopped, the lesions reappear and hence we are visiting the issue fresh even though after a considerable period of time.
My daughter has lesions on the right inner arm, armpit and the chest area adjoining thereto. A very slight mark is on the left cheek. Nothing that cannot be concealed with proper clothing. She is 7 yrs old (vitiligo detected when she was 4) and is not much bothered about the lesions. Rather we are more concerned – obviously.
Van, which derm did you go to in Delhi (we are going to Dr Pasricha in GK II)? What was your daughter’s age then? How long did she take this betnasol treatment? Any physical side effects noticed? What is the treatment that she is taking now? Which part of the country or world are you in? How is your daughter now?
So many questions. Please have the time to reply. Your advice is most valuable to us.
