Hi Khushi,
I know how ur feeling. im 25, and had vitiligo since the last 10 years. ive had vitiligo only on my hands n feet(10-20% of my body). ive tried various treatments back when i was in india, and it was under control, but the patches never repigmented fully. also, recently i again observed little new patches comin up in my hands. i saw ur posting on the depigmentation forum. im planning to undergo depigmentation too as im to be married in 1-2 years.U really seem to be upset with vitiligo. remember to take it easy… dont let it control u, but instead YOU CONTROL IT!
how much of ur body is covered with vitiligo? ve u tried alot of treatments?
Accepting things we cant change in our lives, is an act of wisdom. Accepting them is the first step to being happier and sleeping peacefully at night. theres always a purpose for everything. God certainly has reserved a purpose in everything u r experiencing right now.
For vitiligo, i found that keeping urself busy helps alot. make sure u dont find time to sit and stare at the patches. i used to do that, n end in so much depression. depression caused me to miss the fun of some of the very precious moments of my life.I then realized i had to get out of this- now i dont care much, i am keen on treatments, options, etc… but it doesnt bother me at all. Getting concerned the right way is important. Depression and worry will not take away problems but worsen them.
Do u know what it is to ve cancer? i dont think so! if u did, u wudve thanked God for not placing u with it! Uve a lovely family of ur own, dont spoil this Divine Gift, worrying about issues like vitiligo. instead, go ahead like a brave lady- ur d one who is stopping ur own self from enjoying life to its fullest right now. U have the option to either go down with this, or go up in life with it. Going down is easy- somethin every person can do, but going upwards in life with problems, is what the brave people r about…
Take loads of care, God be with you.
Emerita.Hi Sujit Bhaiyya,
Hamne aapko “Bhai” kaha hai, isliye thanks mat kaho, bahut formal lagta hai!
ive never used these cosmetics, so i do not know anything about the price. but u will ve to call the store and ask them. pehle 1 month ke liye use kar lo, tumhe idea aa jaayega ki kitna usage hai. that will give u an idea of how costly it is for u particularly. Since uve got small patches on ur face, i dont think u would need to use alot. for people who have to cover alot of patches, more bottles/tubes may be needed.First- tell me if u r fair skinned or dark skinned or medium?
Second- tell me how much of ur body is affected with vitiligo? is it only the face/mouth/lip area or elsewhere in the body? since how many years do uve vitiligo?Allopathy is a little expensive compared to other treatments. I was treated by Dr. Shrilatha Trasi in Mumbai. (she treats supermodels and other bollywood actors). This is the reason getting treated from her is expensive.
Ive got patches on my hands, fingers, and on my feet.after treatment for 2years my vitiligo was stable and i was happy! but i saw some small dot-like patches on my lips recently in the last 2months.
I am from Gujarat. I used to go to her once in 3months for an appointment to bombay. She had first given me some steroid injections which costed Rs.1000 each. (1 injection every 2-3months). Then she gave me a narrowband UVB lamp which costed approx Rs.10,000-15000. That was the price before 2-3years, which i used alongwith melagenina plus lotion. 1 bottle Melagenina plus lotion costed me approx Rs.4000. Yes, it was very costly but ive heard it is useless! I did not see improvement in the patches, but the spread of vitiligo was fully controlled. then she used to call me to bombay specially for getting treated at her clinic with a special laser machine. Each sitting costed me Rs.1000-1500 where they pass the laser light on ur patches. After that, i had to come to Australia for my masters degree in march2005. Thats when i left all treatment. ive not got new patches anywhere on my body after that, except some small new patches on my fingers n feet. since im to be married in about 2years, i wont spend any more money on treatments. ive planned to go for complete body depigmentation. but ive still not decided on anything… im still thinking..right now im not much worried as there r no new patches. But a friend told me that due to steroids in medicines, that doctors usually give- the spread of patches stops for 2-3years. then when the effect of steroids fades/goes away, the spreading continues once again.
what i suggest is to go to a good doctor, buy the narrowband UVB lamp. ill try to find out about the price of this lamp. then u can start treatment alongwith some good medicines and see for 2years if it controls the spread of vitiligo. if vitiligo is stable, uve won the war! if not, u will ve to keep trying other treatments.where do u stay? mujhe pata hai ki iska kharcha bahut zyaada hota hai. lekin narrowband UVB lamp useless nahi hai. iske bare mein kaafi accha suna hai. dont go for psoralen treatments.im sure u will see improvements, although i cant gaurantee anything…
im sure things will be fine with u, take care. Emerita
Sujit,
U r saying that ur patches ve grown double the size- thats means ur medicines r not able to control the spread and this means ur vitiligo is STILL NOT STABLE.
Since how long ve u been taking these medicines?
if its more than a year since u r taking these medicines, and if ur patches r growing in size still.. i think narrowband UVB therapy is the best to go for. it is a little expensive in india, but go to a good skin doctor for this treatment. A doctor may also give u steroids to stop d spread of vitiligo.if u can go to Bombay- theres Dr.Trasi who provides treatment for vitiligo. her treatment is expensive. Any allopathic doctor u go to- dont go for anything other than narrowband UVB treatment, as its the latest, and everyone has had improvement with it.
To be very frank, dont waste ur time n money on those stupid treatments. Go for the best!
God Bless you,
Emerita.Hi Sujit Bhaiyya!!!
I can see how happy u r from ur email! That makes me happy too!
Its very IMPORTANT FOR U NOT TO BE DEPRESSED- otherwise it will increase the spread of vitiligo. When i used to be depressed, i saw that my vitiligo kept on spreading, but when i stopped worrying, took my treatments regularly, and kept myself busy with good things, everything was under control.
Have u heard about positive-thinking? well, thinking positive in life will show u how to LIVE LIFE! thinking negatively- will eventually make ur life boring, unhappy… y do u want to waste ur life in depression? by getting depressed, ur not healing vitiligo.Make sure u change ur lifestylye completely and the vitiligo will stop spreading automatically.
Eat good food, avoid oily, junk food. Include fruits, green vegetables, cashewnuts/other nuts.
Excercise daily at the gym or at home to keep urself fit, if meditation interests u, go for it.
Study hard- as it will fetch u a gud career and more confidence(and more money).
Enjoy every moment u can with ur parents, ur bros and sisters, ur friends-they r d treasure of life.
Life a life that fears God, and not man.
And lastly but most importantly- pray daily in the morning and evening- speak to the Loving God, the God who loves u the most, and knows ALL, and thank Him for keeping u ALIVE today!!!(they r all just my suggestions, but believe me-they ve changed my life!)
Theres no need of being depressed,as this is not cancer or AIDS where people r helpless. all will be fine. If theres anything ur worried about, let me know. I will pray not just for ur recovery, but also ask God to give u mental strength to stand against this bravely and also to instead focus and succeed on your career.
i too was worried about this, but my mum n dad told me this- all of us r born to ve weaknesses, but its best to work on our talents, our strengths and make the best out of them. Even people who DONT suffer from vitiligo are born with alot of faults and ve problems. U have done nothing wrong by having vitiligo, God selected it for u- and there must be a purpose for u in this. God probably gave it, so that u might grow stronger!Im sure ur a hardworking boy- u must succeed in ur career.
Right now, im not using any medicines, just waiting patiently to see if there r any new patches. My focus is on my career only- i wish i succeed in getting a good job as an accountant here in Australia. It will make my parents very happy n relaxed!
Yes, the make-up will definitely ease ur trouble, by hiding the patches, and i know u will be very happy and relaxed! I hope it gives u tremendous confidence! the fact that ur still depressed, is probably the reason why ur vitiligo keeps spreading.
But dont let this disease take control of u.
U MUST CONTROL the disease!
dont let it harm any single moment of ur life. If anyone asks u about it, tell them about it openly and show them that ur not concerned over it at all. Now that uve got the make-up, u should not be depressed anymore.May u succeed in life!
Emerita.
Hi Sujit,
Have’nt heard from u since a long time, but i pray ur doing better… keep faith in the Lord, as He is our Hope and Our All.Ive gathered some information for u since u asked about makeup for Vitiligo:
This is what ive gathered:
1) From what ive heard to this day, Dermablend is very widely used, and people ve found it good. In this forum itself, theres information about makeup/camouflage for lips.
This is the address they ve mentioned. Its also available in stores in Delhi. The Bangalore address is:
Empire Store(Opposite to westside),Commercial Street,Banglore. Phone numbers are 080-25588424,25580493.
U will need to choose the shade that matches ur skin color, at times mixing 2 shades to match ur skin color. U need to order a tester kit, is waterproof, lasts for 8hours.U need to order for fixing spray or Powder.once u apply the colour u need to apply fixing powder or spray which works as waterproof. It do last for 8 hrs.2) the main brands used for makeup for vitiligo are: Dermablend, Lydia O’Leary, Clinique, Fashion Flair, Vitadye, and Chromelin offer make-up or dyes that can cover de-pigmented patches.
3) if ur patch is stable, u can go for Micropigmentation is more commonly known as permanent cosmetics camouflage for burns or vitiligo.

ColorTration MakeUp is great for VitiligoThis is all i could find, im sure theres something from this u can choose. U mentioned in ur earlier emails, that ur doc has restricted u from consuming vitamin C food/medicines. If ur treatment is not ayurvedic, then i doubt if this is correct. Aryurvedic docs will restrict u from eating various foods, but if u go for this treatment u will ve to make sure u follow the doctor properly.
Take ur treatment for a year, and then if it doesnt work, try going to a doctor that provides allopathic treatment- using narrowband UVB. All the best for ur treatment, and ur career!

U sound exactly like me!!!!Tell me all about how u r feeling, as i think i can help u, i know how u r feeling!
Now listen to me very carefully- vitiligo patients in depression have shown increase in patches. So please do not get frustrated or depressed! it will be worse than before!Im a student too. i have vitiligo on the fingers, n my feet. i used to get very depressed before, and used to avoid going out. but then i saw increase in vitiligo whenever i was depressed. Now i dont bother about it anymore. Im here in australia, studying. Im away from family, and now ive learnt to be strong. i know that depression is not the way out… it is the way to disaster in life.
As a student, u need to focus on ur career especially because ur a vitiligo patient. Work harder, n make a gud career, as it counts.
What ru studying?
Yes, there are creams like Dermablend available here, but im not sure if its available in India. There are some creams for tanning that u can apply.I just finished my exams today, and will be free for another month. ill find out more about any make-up that u can apply.
But remember- the more u try and hide it, the more importance u give to the patches, the more will people notice it..
Since ive got vitiligo, im even more confident than before.
U need to be patient brother.
What ru studying? is there anything i can help u with? career, coping with anything in ur life?
Im specially feeling for u, because i really want to be there for you.
keep emailing n let me know how ur coping with this, as u r special!!!!

Ayurvedic treatments sometimes works wonders on some people, on the others it has not shown any benefits. I suggest u try the ayurvedic treatment for 1 year. The most important thing for u to see during this one year, is to check if there are any new patches. If there are any new patches even after 7months of ayurved treatment- then stop it and go for the narrow band UVB treatment, which is probably a very gud treatment. It may be expensive, but will work on controlling the spread of vitiligo, which is very important.
Dont be fooled by what d doctors say, but see for urself if there r any changes. the treatment will take time to show its effects, ull need to be patient for 1 year. Make sure u take d treatment regularly.Once ur vitiligo has stopped spreading, u can go for surgeries, or anything to hide the patches.
Take loads of care, and keep informed,
Emeritana.Hi Van,
Yes im willing to contact the doc in singapore =- ill call or email them n ask if they can prescribe monobenzone to me. i know an indian doc would comparatively easily give me the prescription, so im trying to contact some i know thru friends.
is it cheaper getting monobenzone from india thru parcel service or thru australian pharmacists? with a prescription of an indian doctor, will a pharmacist here in aust, permit me with monobenzone?Yes, i know my mum and my dad r really concerned- but u know what- i dont want em to be worried about me anymore, the reason i chose depigmentation. once i get thru it, i ve a career to focus on. since im already 25, it will be time to be married…. so getting a solution right now, i think is a wise idea.
Thanks Van,

is this doc a homeopathic or allopathic? its not always necessary for treatments to give similar results to all patients. what works for one patient may not work on another patient. so keep trying different treatments. but dont stop ur treatment. in ur case, it is genetic, so u may need to ask ur doctor regarding this. ve u tried visiting doctors in mumbai or delhi for this?
Trust me- dont believe any doctor, but see for urself if theres any improvement with the treatment. if it remains stable- its working, if it doesnt- its not working.Ive tried expensive treatments, and it had stopped spreading. i had vitiligo on my hands and my feet. i then stopped treatment. now again after 1 year, ive got new patches- so ive planned to undergo complete body depigmentation.
try narrow band UVB treatment- as ive heard it works on a lot of patients. and dont go for homeopathic treatment- as it is useless.
Emeritana.Hello Van,
im here in melbourne, australia doing my masters in accounting.
i need to know- is it mandatory for me to get a doc’s prescription for benoquin or can i start off with the medicine without a doc? i saw that a lot of websites r providing benoquin without askin for a doc’s prescription.
I also got to know that most docs would not prefer i go for depigmentation as they would want me to try for repigmentation, so im not to keen on visitin em.
Also, right now, since im busy with exams, im not able to go to india to see a doctor and get a prescription for benoquin.
What do u suggest? do u know a doc anywhere who can provide me a prescription for benoquin? do u know of any docs in melbourne?
Thanks aton for ur constant guidance. believe me – i cant talk about this to my parents alot, as im the eldest child! ur supposed to ve lot of responsibilities to shoulder when ur the eldest child, isnt it? But with people like u around- feels like theres a guardian angel here on earth!!!
God bless u.
