Based on observations, about 30% (I think) of people with Vitiligo have someone in their family who has it. That is an unusually high percentage if there were absolutely no relationship between Vit and genetics. So there has to be some sort of a relationship that causes a pre-disposition in people who have relatives with Vit. That is what I was saying in my earlier post when I said it is heriditary.
As for the “having children” thing, it is a complex issue. Overall I am undecided about the whole thing. On the one hand, I dont want to see my kids suffer from Vit, but at the same time I dont regret beeing born and having Vitiligo. The fact that my parents had me is no doubt the best thing that has happened to me! The decision is by no means a “slam dunk” for anyone, other than the CIA . I have always thought that I should adopt kids instead of having my own (even before I got Vit) just because of the fact that India is already overpopulated and we didnt need more people. There are millions of kids in India who are not fortunate enough to have a place to call home. I could adopt a kid and offer a good life to that kid. Vitiligo just gave me another reason to consider that option seriously. Anyways, that is another side of me I dont want to bore anyone with.
A crappy side effect of Vit is that to makes you think about all this stuff. I am too young to be thinking about kids . I just graduated from college 2 years ago…already I feel like an old guy. What the fudge?!?
As for the yoga helping repigmentation, thats news to me. I am a bit skeptical about it. I mean it just sounds like aone of those “one cure fits all” things. I hope I am wrong.

It can definetly be passed on. Even if your son does not have it, he can be a carrier of the Vit gene. So his offsprings could get it.In my case, my maternal grandfather had it, my mom (1 of 7 siblings) has it and guess what??? I hit the genetic jackpot! I have 11 cousins (mom’s side) and none of them have it. Neither does my brother. I dont know if my maternal grandfather had any relatives who had it.
Though I still have a while to go before I get married (?) and have kids(??), I have thought about whether I want to have any kids and risk passing this $hit on. I am optimistic that we will have a decent treatment within the next decade – so that I wont have to decide.
I would definetly take your son to a derm and get a diagnosis. I hope it turn out to be negative, but in the vent that it is positive, the earlier you know it the better.
