Looks like it does not work on Indian skin
[/QUOTED]
[QUOTED]
I think protopic does work on indian skin, but only on the face, but for the rest of the body i dnt think it works that well.
[/QUOTED]Hi Van and Hardeep,
I guess with protopic it just works different for different people…like with everything else! Hardeep, a friend of mine from this site, Jatty, used protopic and had great results. You can read his post on the success stories msg board called ‘Protopic is kicking Ass!!!!! Its working’. Yeh the protopic did work really well on his face, forehead, but also i think on his arms. You know he even offered to bring me back a tube of protopic from India when he went there on holiday a while back…. but i was using some other treatment then, wish id taken him up on it now though! And Jatty if your reading this, reply, cos’ havnt talked to u in ages! Might email u! …..anyways im just gonna stick with the chinese stuff at the moment.
Take care .

Does anybody know any cover up creams in India , specifically in delhi ? Once i remember someone had posted here … but i cannot seem to find it.
[/QUOTED]
Hi Van,I was just reading through some of the older posts and just happened to come across a message by ‘carambamigo’ called ‘Seek details of cover-up creams available in India’, posted on Jan 3 2002. You could do a search for it if your still looking… I hope this helps!
Neesha
Hey guyz! Soz i havnt been posting much…..yeh this post has been pretty quiet for a while Gina…..just been soo busy with exam revision and assignments Too much stress, y’all must know what im talkin about ……havnt really been up to much apart from work…..hmm…just went out with a few mates yesterday and i couldnt believe i got asked for id!….im 20!! Anyways had a huge argument with the barman cos’ he wouldnt accept my NUS as proof and i didnt have my drivin license with me so anyway ended up being kicked out! And yeh the weather Gina, tell me about it…has been raining loads like everyday …..so been a bad few days! and im supposed to be at uni today but i was too tried to get up and it was raining (still is) so couldnt be bothered….. so to make myself feel better i decided that id try and do loads of work today and catch up, which kinda just didnt happen, thats why im here …..such a boring life:( …..not that im complaining or anything! lol

And if he failed…..tell him not to worry cos’ your mate Neesha passed on her fourth time!! lol!

[QUOTED]
I don`t know if u have tried steroid creams.
[/QUOTED]
The first treatment i tried was a steroid cream: ‘elocon’…..didnt work just made me get loads of spots so i stopped using it!
[QUOTED]
Not tried protopic /elidel ?
[/QUOTED]
No I havnt…..its quite hard to get here though cos’ a lot of doctors are reluctant to prescribe it due to funds and also the fact that protopic isnt a registered treatment for treating vit yet… But if you are lucky enough to get it prescribed, it costs only around £6 a tube! …I could get it off the internet but it costs £60 a tube!…a huge difference… and also iv never ordered anything of the internet so im not sure how id do it! ….Hardeep, where did u get protopic from?
[QUOTED]
Have u ever turned pink on ur vit spots with UVB ??
[/QUOTED]
Altogether ive done a year of NB-UVB….6 months of treatments twice a week, 6 months rest and then now ive just finished another 6 months. During the first 6 months of treaments my vit turned more pink than it did during the 6 months that ive just done, even though the treatment lengths were a lot longer… maybe it just isnt working anymore. The vit on my forehead always used to turn pink but only very slightly but the vit on the side of my neck, just below my left ear never really turned pink. I talked to the nurses at the hospital about this and they suggested that i bend my head to the right during the treatments cos’ they thought that the light wasnt getting to that area. So im thinking about excimer laser aswell….gonna cost a lot but somethings gotta work…..excimer laser might work better cos’ the light is directed right onto your vit patches. But first im trying the chinese herbal medicine again.., Hardeep and I tried the same thing a while back aswell and i gotta say that my vit was stable while i was having that medicine and it did get slightly better on my forehead. Hardeep, im gonna try putting my lotion on more and going into the sun.. The herbs still taste awful and i still feel like being sick everytime after ive drank the medicine! Well good luck with that Hardeep and lets hope it works for us both! ….it is costing £35 a week aswell!
Talk soon, Neesha

Oh we’re almost the same age: i’m 21.
[/QUOTED]
Yeh we are Asha! ….im in second year at uni, studying law… so are u in 2nd/3rd yr? U enjoy studying psychology? ….So your at westminister uni right? Ive met ppl on this site with vit who go to that uni!
[QUOTED]
And some of our family friends are terrible gossips, and not very openminded!
[/QUOTED]
Yeh there a lot of the older generation who are like that! …i guess my parents just wanna protect me and thats why they want me to cover my vit… definitely a typical ‘parent thing’!
[QUOTED]
the parents immediately ask the if the girl their son has chosen to marry is pretty.
[/QUOTED]
A lot of ppl, especially asians, do look at appearance rather than personality first… Iv seen it happen here in the UK, for example when people are having arranged marriages they sometimes get a pic of the guy/gal first.. before they decide if they actually wanna meet…Neesha
[QUOTED]
moms… are the worriers of the family… !
[/QUOTED]
Yep VERY true Van!!….but its only cos’ they care!
[QUOTED]
i hv seen so many of the vit ppl i know…..are married and happily so.
[/QUOTED]
Well thats great to know! I wouldnt really know cos’ ive never met another asian with vit before! ….I hope this doesnt sound bad…but sometimes when i think about marriage and stuff…..i think what if i didnt have vit, would i marry someone who did have it??…..i don’t know..Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
[QUOTED]
How you all doing? Havent been on here in a few weeks.
[/QUOTED]
Heys Hardeep! Hows tings? …..Well im not doing too good, just too many exams and assignments! Bet your glad, you don’t have to do exams and stuff again! ….I shouldnt really be on this site, i should be doing my criminal law assigment but i keep putting it off! Hardeep, i read somewhere that if the protopic didnt work for u that you were gonna try the chinese herbal medicine again…well ive just stared that a couple of days ago, will let u know how it goes.
[QUOTED]
so wats the legal practice course?……know which uni u gonna go to for fourth year?
[/QUOTED]
The LPC is a one year course, you need to do it if you wanna become a solicitor and it costs something like £7000 to do!! Dunno which uni i wanna go to yet…there arent many uni’s in England that do it but there are some in London, so u never know! Hmm…dunno what my parents would say about that though! lol!
[QUOTED]
“……..but I still can’t resist doin some moves on my lil bro
[/QUOTED]
lol! Your poor bro! how old is he? My lil bro, whos 11 (or may be 12? lol! something like that!) always does moves on my lil gal cuz (who we live with) and shes only 5!So Gina, hows u doin? How exams goin? Good i hope!…..Baldeesh- hows things with u? Keep in touch everyone!!!
[QUOTED]
Sometimes i think reading too much here can also be depressing for a vitiligo person.
[/QUOTED]
Yeh Van, i have to agree with you on this.. A while back after i kept visiting this site it made me think about my vitiligo too much…so i didnt visit for months….but as you said, it is very informative and also i have made a lot of friends! ….My parents don’t know that i visit this site, im not really sure they’d understand if i told them…..
[QUOTED]
have u tried putting olive oil and then taking UVB ?
[/QUOTED]
Yep i did read that post about olive oil on the main msg board….but i had my last treatment of NB-UVB last week. I had to visit the hospital twice a week for this and the Dr only let me have 6 months of treatments…Im now taking a 6 months break and then i might try again. Even if i did want to try the olive oil, i doubt that the Dr would allow it…..A lot of people here say that the face is one of the easiest/fastest places to repigment, but not for me. My face has tanned a lot, making my vit a lot more visible….i just hope that this tan fades now that i have finished NB-UVB. Anyway i have just started taking chinese herbal medicine, will let u know how that goes.Take care
Hi Vandana,
Thanx for the pics…they were great to see! Im so happy for you and Swinzle. ..I gotta say, she really is pretty and im glad that her vitiligo doesnt bother her. Good luck with the rest of her repigmentation! Does she ever come to this site?
Neesha
Hi Asha,
Im Neesha, 20 yrs old and live in the UK..
[QUOTED]
asking British-Asian Vitties about their experiences with Vitiligo, and the reaction of the Asian community/ family and friends
[/QUOTED]
I definitely have to agree with you that the Indian culture sees vitiligo as more of a problem. Ive had vitiligo for about nearly two years now, down one side of my face and neck. .. No-one else in my family has vitiligo, so when i first found it, i didnt even know what it was.I think in some ways, my parents (especially my mum) are more affected by my vitiligo than i am! …At the beginning, i was really depressed and hated my vitiligo. ..Now, still hate it and can’t really accept it but ive learnt to live with it. I always wear makeup when im not in the house, but sometimes i just get so tired of putting it on all the time…and when people come over and i don’t have my makeup on, my mum and gran always tell me to go upstairs or something. I think that maybe its them that make me wear the makeup, i dunno, maybe i wouldnt wear makeup….im sure that my parents make me cover my vitiligo because of other people’s reactions. Don’t get me wrong, my family have been really supportive through all this but its just that sometimes they seem to be more concerned about my vitiligo than i am. I live with a lot of people, a joint family thing, and even though there are so many people, they’ve never said anything against my vitiligo. Its just that they all want to help, to do something, which is really nice but sometimes i just get sick of it and wish that they could just ignore my vitiligo instead of thinking of new ways to help! Asian cultures have definitely got a big part to play in this…and even though i hate to say this, i agree with you that it may be harder to find a marriage partner. Its sad but tends to be the truth. And maybe this is why my parents always make me hide my vitiligo…
My vitiligo is definitely a big issue within my family. Im always trying different treatments…not cos’ i always want to….but because my family are always giving/telling me different things to try. Everytime someone goes to India, they bring back some herbal medicine that i don’t want to take, but have to and it never works..
I hope this helps and feel free to let me know if you need any more help!
Neesha
