in reply to: how hereditary is it? #110457

Exactly, that is what I am talking about. I am going to India early Nov. and will get more info on this topic. My mother (in-law) also wrote down some recipe for paste of something that you can apply (provided on the show). Van do you also have vitiligo? If so, are you repigmenting from the yoga?

kids topic. Most of my cousins (except one) do not have vitiligo even though their parents have the condition. Most of my cousin’s kids don’t have vitiligo even though their grandparents have the condition (except one). I strongly believe that vitiligo is autosomal dominant, with incomplete penetrance, and variable expression. I have the vitiligo in my genes, but have not expressed it yet (and may never) and even if my vitiligo shows up it could remain as one spot or spread.

One another note: Is anyone in India? My mother was telling me about this Yoga show that comes in the morning that talks about certain Yoga moves to help bring back pigment.

I think that it is hereditary. We have a postive family history; but not everyone in the family has the vitiligo. I know that only 20 – 30% of people report to have a family history and that vitiligo skips upto 5 generations. Yeah, wait and watch if your son really has vitiligo; maybe it is just a temporary hypopigmentation (something everyone gets).
