she has regained colour and pigment with treatments but then she loses it again…..
    [/QUOTED]

    Hi Padma, Vandana,

I think the key to maintain pigment is to treat it internally. External applications, PUVA etc can be used to regain pigment.
I have, in the past, tried lotions and sun exposure……………but doing that alone will bring the pigment for sometime, but as soon as u stop, the pigment just goes away…………and that is very frustrating.

I think homeopathy gives good results in a lot of cases.
For me, I have been taking homeopathy from a doctor in Agra for ayear and a half now.
I am seeing repigmentation, very slowly in the older spots, and less slowly in comparatively newer ones.
And the pigment that I get matches my skin color completely, and it has persisted till now.
Ya, I havent stopped the treatment, so I cannot say if the pigment will reamin even after that. But I somehow feel it will.

    just my piece of advice.

Also, homeopathy seems to be very doctor dependent. Being able to find the right doctor is also important.

    take care
    Rasmi

Because to be able to keep it under control for such a long time is really great.
    [/QUOTED]
My vit has never been under control actually……………but it didnt spread like wild and I have been lucky about that.
I must have spread fast at some time………….when it increased from 1 spot to so many, but I dont remember that time. My parents must.

I have posted a reply to Sajni’s mail.

I would say, keep a positive attitude, and dont about your vit. That is what I have done, not bothered about my vit. It does not make me any less a person.

i see people saying just one are two patches like forehead and knee and nowhere else
    [/QUOTED]

i actually have 3 big patches on my forehead, justbelow the hairline, forming a complete band, and a lot of spots on my legs, but they are all below the knee…..somehow they all occur below the knees only

in the past i had sots on my face as well, but they pigmented quiet fast soon after they occured, and thankfully, none reappeared on the face :-)

have had minor ones on arms sometimes

    [QUOTED]
i can’t help thinking you must be doing something right that it did not spread.
    [/QUOTED]

My vit has not spead considerably for years now, but it has never been dormant. There has always been change in the size of my patches, new patches occuring all the time.
Patches have also gone away with some treatment or other.
This is what I have been doing for 20 years

    1. All throughout the 20 years that i have had vit, i have taken some medicine or other. I have tried ayurvedic, unani, homeopathy (from diff doctors), and allopathy.

    2. I am a vegetarian, so no meat, and I rarely eat eggs, almost none.

    3. I have been kept away from sour foods, by all the doctors. That basically included citrus fruits, tamarind and curd.
When I was a child, I would eat some, when Mom was not looking, but i definitely avoid these things now.

    4. I drink milk, lots of it…………..have never given it up.

    5. For a year, I tried Yoga. I was in contact with a very good teacher, and he taught me various asanas, pranayams, neti (cleaning of nasal tract) etc. I did nothing in particular for my vit only, but as a means of keeping healthy in general. During that time, while I was not on any medication for a few months, I did not get any new spots……………..that was probably because of the fitness regime………i cannot say particularly.

    6. One important thing – I was never ever bothered about my spots till a few year back. Actually no one made me feel I was different because of vit, and I never thought/felt otherwise. Through my childhood and teenage I wasnot stressed or anything because of my condition. Actually, because of this I was very complacent about my treatments also………………..I would eat the medicines given to me, but never researched on my own to try different things.

    7. I statred with my current homeopath about 14 -1 5 months ago. For a few years before that, I was not getting ANY positive results with any medicine, and my spots were increasing slowly.
Since I started this medicine, the spread has stopped, and I am also seeing some pigmentation in my spots. The newer ones are rcovering first. The spots on my forehead are the oldest and most stubborn.

    8. Now, my doctor tells me that I shoud avoid Vitamin c rich foods (and that is the theory behind avoiding sour foods). So to the list of sour foods which I always avoided, are also added things like papaya, guava and many more which are rich in C)

There have been period of time when I did eat all citrus fruits, sour foods but there wasnt any significant increase in my vit. So, I cannot say there is any definite link b/w vit and these type of foods.
But I anyway avoid them for benefit of doubt.

    9. One more thing, I drink water kept in a copper vessel, and have done it for 2 -3 years now. Cannot trace anything in particular to it though. Also, I drink 4 glasses of water in the morning, first thing.

    [QUOTED]
(also do u have grey hair on ur forehead hairline)
    [/QUOTED]

No, I do not have grey hair on my forehead hairline. My hairline may have been pushed back a litle because of vit, but I canot tell because I have had it for so long that I dont know how my hairline was before it. My mum also doesnt remember.
There was one white patch on my scalp and the hair in that area were white………………..so I had one white streak. It got cured slowly, and its ok now.

Hope u get something useful from here………..but there is no pattern, nothing special actually.

    Bye

Well it all starts with a small dot doesnt it. And then when you see even slightest of repigmentation it you never regret the time it took to come.
    [/QUOTED]

    thanks for the encouragement Victor.

if u google with leucoderma and bawachi (or bavachi), u will surely get something.
i remember readding something once on the net about soaking bavachi seeds in cow urine or water for a few days, and then making a paste with it to apply………………..i may not remember the specific detals.

or is it available in the market, if yes then by what name.
    [/QUOTED]

it is available in the market by the name “Skinto”.
Am not sure if u will get it in Bombay. I bought it from Agra, where my doctor is. He only prescribed it. The pharmacist said it is made by a company in faridabad only.
try in bombay, otherwise Delhi or some other city in north

but dont get your hopes too high………..i have just seen very needle point black dots after more than 2 months of use.

    best of luck

It is nice to hear that you are responding to early morning sun rays.
These rays provide D vitamin, thats what required for vit affected skin.
    [/QUOTED]

i am seeing some response to early morning sun, but very less…..but of course with vit u need patience.

even i am applying an ointment, made of bawchi before sun exposure.

i read all that everyone had to say about the unani medi on the Hindi msg board. yes, i have been thinking about it also.

    thanks a lot

Where in Mumbai do you find sun rays as clean as it sounds??
    [/QUOTED]

Yes, Mumbai gets cloudy a lot of time, and what with the tall buildings blocking the rising sun. But still, I have to make do with whatever is there :-)

    Thanks a lot

How extensive is your Vit anyways? Because if its just started then I dont think it would be harmful to try different medicines.
    [/QUOTED]

I have white spots on my forehead(just where the hairline ends, so i cover it with my hair) and on the legs below the knees only.
I have had it for really long, for about 20 years now. I too have tried ayurveda, it helps to an extent, then stops working, we never really know why this happens.

NB UVB is available in Nair Hospital, that is what I found from their site. I am exposing to the early morning sun though, which is proving effective, producing some freckles. So i thought maybe I should try NB UVB also.

    [QUOTED]
Oh, you too stay in Mumbai, cool. So there are some girls with Vit in Mumbai as well huah.
    [/QUOTED]

Actually, I have seen maximum people with Vit in Mumbai of any other city. I have stayed in Delhi, varanasi and bangalore before this. Anyway, that maybe because Mumbai has THE maximum number of people.

But if your taking homeopathy right now, it would be advisable to consult your homeopathic practitioner before combining it with other medicines, as I understand that homeopathy does not combine well with other medicines. Just my bit of suggestion.
    [/QUOTED]

Yes, I will definitely consylt my homeo doctor before trying anything else.

BTW, I also stay in Bombay, and was wondering what treatment are you taking?
Have u tried NB UVB? Have u tried ayurveda?

I have not tried any of the doctors whom you have mentioned in your list, but I am undergoing homeopathy treatment from Dr Pareek in Agra, India.
I am getting treated from him for the past 1 year, with some slow but definitively positive results.
I will post his address tommorrow, as I do not have it with me now.
