Hi Aly,
I don’t know about the availability of camouflage cosmetics in India. There has been some talk about food coloring used as a cover-up stain in the main forum. You may want to do a search (depicted by a magnifier on the top) and type ‘food coloring.’ I’m pretty sure food coloring would be available there.
Is your daughter being treated for vitiligo? There are quite a few options – PUVA, NB-UVB, steroid cream, Protopic (not sure if it is available in India) etc. My husband says that Protopic works the best in his opinion. The progress is slow but sure. Vitamins help too, especially Vitamin B. My husband takes apart from a number of vitamins, Olive Leaf Extract and Liverite (supplement for the liver; in India, Liv 52 is available). Good luck.

Thanks for the address and phone number. I really appreciate it. It looks like the treatment has not changed since my husband saw Dr. Narasimha Rao about 13 – 14 years back as he was also prescribed Melanocyl. Wish some new treatment pops up.

Thanks for providing the present location of his clinic. NB UVB is not available in our area. Only PUVA is available, which my husband says he will not undergo again because the Psoralen tablets upset his stomach. For Pseudocatalase-KUS, one has to travel to Germany. Hence he has not tried it.
Have you consulted Dr. Narasimha Rao. He is supposed to be a good doctor for treating vitiligo. In fact, I want to see him next time we visit Hyderabad to find out if he has any new treatment for vitiligo. Also, do you have the telephone number of his clinic?

My father talked to a dermatologist in Hyderabad and that dermatologist said that there is a medicine to stop the new growth, if not to cure the current spots.
[/QUOTED]Hi Padma,
Were you able to find out the name of the medicine? From my husband’s experience, I feel that it is more important to stop new growth since PUVA or NBUVB can repigment the existing spots. When you see new spots, it breaks your heart. I feel sorry for both you and the other Padma’s children since I know first hand how devastating it can be. You know, the fear of my daughter getting Vitiligo (since her father has it) is always in my mind and I guess it will never go away in my life time.

Recently, couple of months ago I noticed a spot on my daughter’s eye lid just below the eyebrow, it’s not really milky white like my sons’.
[/QUOTED]Hi Padma,
My daughter too had a hypopigmented spot below her eyebrow. I was very worried since my husband has vitiligo. However, I was very worried and sad to see the spot on my daughter’s face. I took her to not one but 4 dermatologists. I was obsessed with treating it. Turns out it is Pityriasis Alba, a condition that resolves on its own. The doctor prescribed over the counter hydrocortisone cream. It went away in a couple of months. However, the fear of vitiligo is always there in my mind.
I guess what I want to say is that your daughter too may have hypopigmentation (Pityriasis Alba) since the patch is not stark white. If so, it will go away on its own or you can speed up its resolution with over-the-counter hydrocortizone cream.
Incidentally, no one on my husband’s side has vitiligo but he has.
