      hi asha,

As u said comparing the asians and non asians.. may pose a prob coz of the many variables..
Pyschological impact, relationships… could be one of the areas u could work on. Growing up with vitiligo is another subject. Most ppl with vitiligo do get married….. even in India, where marriages are arranged. I have seen, later in life if ppl develop vitiligo.. spouses are more accepting. I will give the whole subject more thought … and get back to u.
Let me make a suggestion.. why don`t u post a msg on the main msg board.. ppl will come up with more ideas. Also there was a msg from someone in ahemdabad.. who is running a programme ( a first of its kind ) .. u cld talk to her. I will ask her to post a msg here…
      talk to u again,
      van
oops.. i think u hv already posted on the main msg board.

              Asha,

Interesting to read ur message and to see an Indian raising this issue. In the past some others have done some research, mostly from the US.
I think its a bigger issue for the Asians than the non Asians coz we are darker skinned and the contrast stands out more. Morever, in other non Asian countries , most of the months people are covered up.. coz of the cold climate. Another thing , Indians hardly use cover up creams whereas the non Asians mostly have access and buying power to a whole lot of camoflague stuff… and their lighter skin tone is easy to cover up also.
              [QUOTED]
Are you more likely to hide your Vit because of other people’s reactions (or your own discomfort), or is Vitiligo something that the Asian community know about, and accept
              [/QUOTED]
I think its both the reasons.. vit people feel uncomfy about themselves spotted like that as well as coz of other people`s stares and reactions.
I have a 11 year daughter who has vitiligo… but at her age it does not seem to bother her at all…. i feel more concerned when people stare at her !
Over the years i have seen vitiligo is affecting more and more people /Indians… so people are more used to seeing vit faces… but guess the stigma is still there.
I am sure other members will give u their opinions. Let us know how we can help u with the study.
              Good wishes,
              vandana

                            hello Ifti,

welcome to the website..and our Indian group here. You will find a lot of members from mumbai.
Very good to hear u are repigmenting…. and thanks for the info abt ur treatment. Just be careful with melanocyl it can cause bad burns n blisters with slight overexposure also. Its good to know… u are dedicated to the treatment. Is ur vitiligo stable…. ? i mean not spreading ? I think they do the excimer laser when ur vitiligo is stable.

A product similar to Protopic is available in India by the name of Tacroz.

wish u good luck.. and let us know ur progress…keep in touch.

Interesting…we mostly forget the need for water till we are thirsty ! 6-8 glasses are recommended for daily intake. … but i guess the more u take the more hydrated u are… and Nicole kidman drinks 6 litres of water a day to keep her skin moisturised !!!!
I have read water shd be drunk at room temperature. Cold water is not good. Slows down metabolism or something like that…

                                  hi bejoy,

Wow.. !!! Thats great news.. spots turning pinkish with exposure to sunlight ! Sure sign that repigmentation is being triggered. I am sure u will eb a success story.
True, sensitivity of skin varies…. from person to person.
I think if one`s skin is exposed to sun a lot.. …the body gets conditioned to that much sunlight..as in my daughter`s case. She cannot repigment with sun alone unless exposed to it for hours.
                                  Best wishes !
