Thanks Shantanu ! I am glad I could be of help.
You bet !!! This ‘fish and milk’ thing does maximum rounds in India !!! I wonder the basis of this …since in India , we have many cultures where fish and milk are used togather in cooking !!! In fact lately I heard another myth which stated that drinking milk after having anything fried and/or salty will give you vitiligo…and I thought ‘lo !!!…there goes our parantha / eggs/ sandwich and milk breakfast’ . I guess laugh is indeed all we can do at the end of it !!!
Technically, the only point I want to add here is that, vitiligo is not genetic only…it can occur even when you have no genetic history of the disorder.Take Care.
Hello Ashmi,
This sure is a wonderful place and I am sure you are a wonderful person.

I was always wishing to hear possitive words….

My only opinion is that it all starts from you…if you have a positive outlook and say positive words…that is what will come back to you if not always …then atleast most of the times…I believe as long as you wish to make a difference, you will… I just put my thoughts in action and gradually the ‘how’ part becomes clear.
I have fortunately not encountered illtreat to an extent that I start begrudging my life…my outlook always sees me through such times…so please take good care of yourself, be happy and spread hope.

Hi Again Van
I had a wonderul weekend, hope your weekend was great as wellI switched to ayurvedic, herbal cosmatics last week after i got to know so many things about cosmatics and chamicals in them which can worsen my vitt. I was so surprized !!! we hardly get any articles on vitt in health columns, I am worried that so many vitts like me here are not clued on to what to avoid and what supplemets to take . I myslef just hit abouit this org, recently allthough I am working on net for years !!!
Anyway, I will ponder and find out how do I help them
I am well past my college days and am working professional at present.
You take care and have a nice day
SiaMy mom thinks that my vitt trigger was jaundice at the age of 5. I guess its my liver, I do not have problems with my digestive system. But very recently I have noticed an intolernace to heavy, oily food myself !
Tell me, do vitts have to use the regualr sunscreens available off the shelf, or some specefic brands??. I am not sure about all the chemicals used in them, they surely do conatin phenolic compounds.Hope they do more good than harm to vitty skin !!!
you too have a great weekend
SIa

Thanks for your useful advice Van ! I will definitelty think it over about the depig thing. I am presently not taking any treatment, and that is the status for almost two years now. The only downside of my vit has been that I also aquired hypothyroidism some 6 years back, and now due to this I sometime develop pain in joints, you get one autoimmune disorder and the suseptibility of rest of them following is fairly high! Now i guess the calcium level is depleting in my bones. I have started calcium and B complex supplement apart from thyroxin for my thyroid problem, so thata all the medication I am on to !!! I am not abstaining from any foods aftyer a long long time ! (huge releif !) I had enough of food fundas during my childhood when i was on to all those treatments.
I do not know if any doctors in delhi treat vitiligo with tacroz or provide depig procedure. Let me know or mail me if you know any ?
Thanks a ton.
Warm Regards,
Sia
PS: I am really glad for your little girl , pretty soon vitiligo would be a thing of past for her , and that to early in life. You are a great mom, and she is blessed.
Thanks Van for lifting my spirits and I guess your daughter is one wonderful and beautiful person
Thanks Sallu for sharing your treatment facts.I am based at Delhi, and I had vitiligo since I was 6 years old. Its been more than two decades now !. It was difficult as a kid, but for almost all these years my vitiligo was limited to just tips of my hands, a spot on my back and on and off spots around my eyes. My parents tried allopathy, homoeopathy, ayurvedic as well as unani medicines, but nothing helped cure it, in fact as a child I always felt bad about always being on medication and abstaning from various foods as per the respective treatment, esp homoeopath and unani restrict a lot of foods. And the treatment with psorlane and ayurvedic medication (i guess they use babchi) always left me with huge blisters and severe itch and swelling on all the patches. Finally I ended all treatments few years back. The patched on my eyes and around mouth were not going so I used dermacolor to camouflage them, but about two years back I was in USA , the sun was really very harsh there and I developed some heat rashes and skin dryness. since that time my vitiligo has started spreading and now I am almost 65 % covered maybe it was the sunscreen that helped the spread I gave up on makeup last year, there was so much to cover that I felt better without the hassle, and I have not looked back since then. I was always OK with my condition since I went thru so much during my childhood that the vitt stopped being of any botheration but I am happy the way I am, and I do not pay much attention to my vitt either. Today I feel I am very positive, confident and beautiful person, thanks to my vitt, since it is this adversity in my life which thought me so much about life.
I have not thought of depig as an option at present, am waiting for nature to take its course. I think that let my skin get the melanocytes protection wherever they are left
I wish I got all this wonderful information about vitiligo few years back, and I am sure I would have been able to stop or control the spread. For example, today when i look at my cosmetics, almost all of them contain phenol or phenolic compounds, lip balms, deodorants, talcum, moisturizer, sunscreen. And I have been using them since ages now. I wonder whether to stop the usage. It would be great if someone can tell as to what exactly has to be avoided and which phenols are good (like somewhere it said green tea is good)
